TOP 3 DIY Summer Skincare Secrets

NATURAL INGREDIENTS FOR YOUR SUMMER SKINCARE REVAMP

Aloe Vera

A widely used and incredibly revered ingredient in the summer that soothes sunburn, hydrates the skin, and reduces inflammation.

Aloe vera gel contains bioactive compounds like polysaccharides and antioxidants that promote wound healing and possess anti-inflammatory properties. It also acts as a natural moisturizer, preventing skin dehydration which is perfect to help achieve that naturally glowing look.

Green Tea

Green tea protects against sun damage, rejuvenates the skin, fights signs of aging; all incredible benefits for those with mature skin.

It is rich in polyphenols, particularly catechins, which have powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. These compounds help protect the skin from harmful UV radiation and assist in reducing redness and irritation caused by sun exposure.

Coconut Oil

Moisturizes the skin, provides a protective barrier and nourishes dry skin, coconut oil is power packed with fatty acids for your body’s skin to soothe and rehydrate. Coconut oil contains lauric acid, which has strong emollient properties. It is a must-have in your summer skincare.

These fatty acids help reinforce the skin's natural lipid barrier, preventing moisture loss and keeping the skin supple and hydrated, replenishing your skin after a long day at the beach.

Citrus Fruits (e.g., lemons, oranges)

Brightens the complexion, evens out skin tone, provides a refreshing and rehydrating sensation. Citrus fruits are rich in vitamin C, a potent antioxidant that plays a crucial role in collagen synthesis.

This vitamin helps reduce hyperpigmentation, promote a more even skin tone, and impart a youthful glow. Always add it in your summer skincare.

Honey

Moisturizes, soothes, and nourishes the skin; honey also helps fight hyperpigmentation and inflammation.

Honey possesses antimicrobial properties due to its low pH, enzymatic production of hydrogen peroxide, and the presence of certain plant compounds. These properties contribute to its ability to inhibit bacterial growth, making it beneficial for acne-prone skin.

TOP PICKED DIY RECIPES FOR RADIANT SKIN

DIY Natural Sunscreen

Aloe Vera and Coconut Oil are definitely holy grails in the armor of any organic skincare expert. To make your own sunscreen, you'll need the following.

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup of coconut oil (with a sun protection factor (SPF) of approximately 7)
  • 2 tablespoons (or more) of powdered zinc oxide
  • 1/4 cup of pure aloe vera gel (make sure it's at least 50% pure aloe)
  • 25 drops of walnut extract oil (for scent and an additional SPF boost)
  • 1 cup (or less) of shea butter (to achieve a spreadable consistency)

Instructions

  • Combine all the ingredients, except the zinc oxide and aloe vera gel, in a medium saucepan. Heat the mixture over medium heat until the shea butter and oils have melted together.
  • Allow the mixture to cool for a few minutes before stirring in the aloe vera gel.
  • Let the mixture cool completely before adding the zinc oxide. Stir well to ensure the zinc oxide is evenly distributed. If you prefer a stickier consistency, you can incorporate beeswax or another waxy substance.
  • Transfer the sunscreen to a glass jar and store it in a cool, dry place until you're ready to use it.

Disclaimer: Remember, this diy natural sunscreen should be used as a supplementary option and not as a substitute for commercially available sunscreens. It's important to conduct a patch test before applying it to your entire body and to reapply frequently for adequate sun protection.

DIY Natural Radiance Face Mask

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp turmeric powder (brightens and evens out skin tone)
  • 1 tbsp raw honey (moisturizes and soothes the skin)
  • 1 tbsp plain yogurt (exfoliates and nourishes)
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice (reduces dark spots and blemishes)

Instructions

In a small bowl, combine turmeric powder and raw honey. Turmeric contains curcumin, a powerful antioxidant known for its skin-brightening properties. It helps reduce the appearance of dark spots and promotes an even skin tone.

Add plain yogurt to the mixture. Yogurt contains lactic acid, which acts as a natural exfoliant. It gently removes dead skin cells, revealing a smoother and more radiant complexion. Yogurt also provides nourishment and hydration to the skin.

Squeeze in fresh lemon juice. Lemon juice is rich in vitamin C, an antioxidant that helps fade dark spots and blemishes. It brightens the skin and promotes a youthful glow.

Application

  • Combine all ingredients together
  • Start with a clean face, free from makeup or impurities.
  • Using clean fingers or a brush, apply the mask evenly to your face, avoiding the delicate eye area.
  • Leave the mask on for about 15-20 minutes to allow the ingredients to work their magic.
  • Rinse off the mask with lukewarm water, gently massaging your skin in circular motions for added exfoliation.
  • Pat your skin dry and follow up with your regular moisturizer.

Disclaimer: Due to the vibrant yellow color of turmeric, be cautious as it can temporarily stain your skin or clothing. It's recommended to perform a patch test before applying the mask to your face, especially if you have sensitive skin or are prone to allergies.
