Most massage oils are made from a blend of two things- a carrier oil and an essential oil. Massage oils found in the market are likely to have a combination of multiple carrier and essential oils; each with a specific purpose. 

Carrier Oil

The primary oil ingredient that accounts for approximately 90% of the total composition in a massage oil.

Essential oils

Concentrated and fragrant natural oils that have health and wellness advantages. It is used in small quantities and mixed with a carrier oil in small concentrations. Essential oils are far too powerful to be used directly on the skin.

Essential oils should be diluted to a limit of 2% of the overall mixture.


Avocado Oil 

Avocado oil is extremely nourishing. It is slightly thicker than other carrier oils and can remain on the skin for extended periods of time, nourishing deeply into the skin for increased penetration.

What’s your skin type?

Get a massage oil that is suitable for your skin type or all skin types. Make sure it does not contain any chemicals that are irritating to your skin. When selecting a massage oil, consider your particular preferences, skin tone, and skin type. 

Absorption rate of the carrier oil 

The absorption rate of the carrier oil is an important aspect to consider. Massage treatment benefits from lighter weight oils that require a fair amount of time to absorb.

They minimize the friction between epidermis and palms and enter well into the skin. However, if you prefer, you can choose an oil that absorbs rapidly like Rosehip Seed Oil. 

Let the scent guide you

You probably have a scent you prefer above others. Choose a massage oil based on your favorite scents! If you need to unwind but don't like the scent of lavender, there are plenty of other soothing oils to choose from.
